About the Salon
Style Destination – A Dream Becomes Reality
Late in 2005, Mauricio and Norma opened Mauricio Fregoso Salon. MFS is a modern boutique style salon in the heart of Tucson’s shopping district, “The Campbell Corridor.”
When Mauricio and Norma planned on opening a hair salon, they knew finding the perfect place for their specialized salon was one of the most important decisions they would make. They knew they wanted a contemporary modern feel and they wanted a lot of natural light. After searching for a year, they came across a retail shop available in the Campbell Plaza with three seven foot tall by fourteen foot long windows; they immediately knew that the space was perfect.
Mauricio and Norma spent the next year designing and building out the 1,200 square foot, 8 chair Mauricio Fregoso Salon. The result of their labors is a feast for the eyes. Except for the back area, there are no walls, which give the salon an airy feel. Metal and Lucite styling stations are from Italy. Each mirror has light emanating from the sides and is soft and flattering. No harsh shadows here. The furniture is from Italian designers Gamma and MB Broff and helps to give the salon its modern feel. Nearly everything in the salon is moveable, including the fixtures and mirrors, to allow for Mauricio and Norma’s passion for photo shoots. Three European backwash units make up the shampoo area, which has a beautiful custom stainless steel countertop and glass cabinets. Whimsical glass bubbles float above the shampoo area.
The back wall hosts the hair color center. The custom-designed consultation and application center allows for a separate area for applying and processing the color. Two wall mounted Italian heat processors aid in developing the colors.
The concepts for the salon were simple, clean lines. Mauricio and Norma saw what salons needed and what clients wanted. “We feel that clients are tired of big, impersonal, factory type salons with bad customer service. We wanted a boutique style salon, where clients aren’t lost in the shuffle. We give great style with no pretense.” The vibe of MFS is laid-back and friendly, with priority on the customer’s needs and wants. With its cream colored walls, maple cabinetry, ivory furniture, and water color accents, MFS’ décor is modern, contemporary and comfortable. Clients are treated to fresh coffee with real cream, herbal teas, iced tea, soda, wine, or beer when they arrive, and guaranteed beautiful hair and a relaxed spirit by the time they leave.
